Who's Behind The Squirrel?
Hi, I’m Emily!
I’m a designer and lifelong doodler. In school, my homework assignments and notes would be covered in silly doodles of animals and weird critters. My teachers either loved them or hated them!
I always had an eye for design and a love of color, so I decided to get my BFA degree in Interior Design. Being in the design world made me realize how much material waste there is in the industry. Fabric, tile and carpet samples were being thrown away left and right, ending up in landfills. So I crafted a plan! Instead of throwing away those samples, I collected (ok hoarded) them.
Thus…. Material Squirrel was born!
I get to create art and decor using recycled fabric and salvaged materials. All of my products are created in small sustainable batches!
Material Squirrel brings joy to everyday life through playful art, fun décor, and cute accessories - designed to make you smile, laugh, and embrace your silly side.
SO WHY THE NAME MATERIAL SQUIRREL?
To quote Madonna “We are living in a material world”, so we might as well be inspired by the materials we use!
Also squirrels are determined furry balls of energy that make us laugh, very admirable qualities. Have you seen them try to get food out of bird feeders? It’s equal parts hilarious and impressive. Watch the video to see their sheer determination!
